Well, most of the drama of the election seems to be over, which is a good thing. Change is in the air, but here at Cardinal Graphics, we are still offering the same reliable service we always have. We’re looking towards the future, by recycling and monitoring the use of our resources, as well as expanding our website’s graphic and ordering capabilities. (As you may have noticed, it’s a little construction-ized right now.) Soon we’ll have it snappy and fresh so you can get what you need quicker. But for right now, we at least offer free shipping on quite a few of our products.

Stay in touch, and check back often to see what’s new!

New Business Card Options

without comments

Hello, to all our faithful readers and customers! We are now announcing new capabilities & customizations for our business cards.  We have just received word that our vendor now offers UV coating on both sides of the cards, whether you are ordering 14 point or 16 point cardstock.  And, that goes for jobs that are printed on one or two sides.  UV coating adds an extra layer of protection for the inks.  It will keep them from getting scratched or worn, and gives the cards a shiny, glossy coat. The stock we use is coated two sides, (which gives it a sheen, even without the extra UV coat) and it can be written on using a ball point pen, or other utensil.

Our Business cards are versatile and look great! We still have to update the choices we have available online, but if you’d like to hear about other options, feel free to call us! 614-876-1956, or toll free: 1-866-850-1106.

We’re back!

without comments

Well, those winds on Sunday were something, weren’t they? I heard they were up to 75 miles an hour in some parts of Columbus. We at Cardinal Graphics were fortunate to have no damage to our building, or property.  However, the fact that we had no phones, internet, or faxing capabilities until today, was a little disabling, to say the least. Our website even started sending expired coupons to new registered customers, because we couldn’t get online to update the information!

Our design department was able to work on our current projects, because we DID have power… but with no way to send proofs to customers, or get artwork approved for printing, we could only get so far. So we are glad to be back!

Our Field Trip

without comments

What a learning experience i had today!  I was privileged to be a part of the Cardinal Graphics team that went to North End Press printing & binding facilities.  We had a short meeting, and heard about their various capabilities, then took a tour through the facility.  It was my very first time seeing a heidelberg letterpress, and probably my favorite part of the tour!

Some members of our team, have been around commercial printing for their entire careers, and so things like the exposure of press plates, how the paper runs through an offset press, and even a linotype machine, are like second nature to them.  However, where i want to school they taught new designers the skills for designing, but the application methods were lacking a little. Things like measuring in picas were things i’d done on screen contantly, but with a distance from their first physical uses. Today, i saw the original metal bars used to measure the various sizes for typesetting.

I had studied things like em’s, picas, the slug, etc.  but to actually see where the terms originated from, was so exciting and enlightening for me! I had always had trouble picturing the size that an em would be, based on the type size, but now i’ve seen and touched the square metal spacers, myself, and compared the 12 point em to a 24 point em. I feel like i learned more in that hour & a half than i can even describe. It was a history lesson, a machinery crash-course, and an informational tour all in one.

I was also impressed with the size of North End Press’ facility. They have multiple floors of in-line printing, cutting, binding, folding, packing, shrink wrapping, wafer sealing, envelope stuffing, and more!  Along with huge loading bays, a vertical conveyor, and lots of space… my feet were a little sore, and my brain was quite full by the end of the tour.

Hello world!

without comments

Well, thank you for visiting our first blog entry!  We are excited here at Cardinal Graphics to be improving our services, and this includes keeping you updated on what’s going on here.

envision, design, succeed.

envision, design, succeed.

One thing that’s relatively new here, is our Graphic Design Department.  See something you’d like to purchase on our site, but only have the idea and not the digital file?  -maybe you jsut need an updated layout or logo sized correctly for printing.  We can do everything from putting together a new look for your company’s identity, to laying out the text you’d like to see in your next newsletter or publication.

We have state-of-the-art equipment, (our designers love iMac’s) and the latest adobe creative suite software. Our lead graphic designer has experience in the field, and a bachelor’s degree in graphic design.  This equals great results for you!

Let us promote you with the freshest, most memorable imagery & layouts, at an affordable rate!

Ok, so that’s my spiel for the design department- we are really excited about it, if you can’t tell.  But lately, we’ve also been excited about the quotes we’ve been getting from our vendors.

I’m not gonna lie, the economy right now is a little low… However, this is translating into a good thing for our customers, because large-scale printing companies are becoming more willing to compromise on their prices.  They are increasingly willing to fill blank press time with “in between” jobs, at a fraction of the regular charges.  As a print broker, we receive quotes from hundreds of direct-to-trade printers, and are able to bargain with them to get the very best values for our customers.

Anyway, I think this post is becoming quite long, and we’ve only just begun!

for now, goodbye- and thank you for reading.
